As introduced, HOUSE BILL 1043 requires the unemployed individual to perform at least twenty (20) hours of community service each month without compensation to be eligible for unemployment benefits. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there were 119,926 unemployed persons in Oklahoma as of December 2010 (6.9%). This would equal 599,630 hours of community service per week.
