Abolition of common-law marriage
SENATE BILL 148 will abolish the practice of common-law marriage in the state of Oklahoma, regardless of the state in which the common-law marriage was deemed. This will only affect future unions and not those that were recognized by law prior to the enactment of this law.
Basically this means that living together over time will no longer be seen as a legal marriage in Oklahoma. This bill has been referred to committee.
